The Early Years...

Panel 1
Young Wobinna (about 10 years old) and her best friend, (Michaela, Micki for short) are lying in the backyard on the grass. It’s the week-end and they’re bored. They’re looking for something to do. Micki comes up with an idea.

Micki: Why don’t we set up a lemonade stand?

Wobinna with an enthusiastic response: H’mm….I like it, I’ll build the stand!

Panel 2
They are now in Wobinna’s room at her drafting table creating a plan for their lemonade stand. They’re both excited about the ideas that they’ve come up with.

Wobinna: What if we had an extra piece (of wood) here?

Micki (excitedly): Ooooh! And here!!

Panel 3
With the final constructed stand, they set up for business at their local park. With their unique design, they attract a lot of attention and sell a lot of lemonade!

Young couple buying lemonade: WOW! Cool stand!

Micki in response: (Yeah) She (Wobinna) loves to build!

We really hope you enjoy this story.
The next comic strip to follow!

The early years...

Panel 1
Wobinna’s mother is suggesting something for her to play with.
Wobinna looks at the dolls in her room with a grimace, and thinks to herself "I don’t want to play with these".

Wobinna’s mother’s voice: Why don’t you play with your dolls?!

Wobinna making a face: Hmm…

She then notices the wood in the backyard through her window.

Panel 2
Sitting by the tree with the wood and hammer in hand, there is a flurry of activity. With a big smile on her face she is building...

Wobinna (happy): Now this is fun!!

Panel 3
With not much care for her dolls, she shoves them all into their newly built home.

Wobinna (shouting to her mother from the backyard): Found something to do with my dolls Mom!!

We really hope you enjoy this story.

Our New Location Is at the Vibrant Corso Italia Neighborhood

Last week was a moving week for Wo-Built and as you already know, we have set up our new office on St. Clair Avenue on Corso Italia.

As you can imagine, the area is rich with culture, aromas and flavours, but here you can also see that CHIN, an integral part of this community, was parked right out our window having just broadcast their afternoon show from one of the local shops.

It's good to be located in such a close knit community and to be part of a vibrant area with people bustling on the streets and music playing from sign posts. If you haven't been to this part of Toronto, you are missing a gem.

Corso Italia is along St. Clair Avenue West from Westmount Ave, just east of Dufferin to Lansdowne.

[Saturday: Not open]

[ V ] Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre

I can recommend Allan Gardens Conservatory already.

We love design and Open Doors Toronto is a great occasion to see some of the great architecture and buildings Toronto has to offer.

Design is a passion for us and many of Toronto’s Architects are designing innovative and novel buildings. Ultimately, we would like to build these new buildings and as a first step we are now offering to architects and designers a new service. We provide realistic estimates for the projects during the design phase. The aim is to help architects and designers provide complete information to their clients. If you are an architect or a designer we would like to hear from you to see how we can be of service.

Sometimes we come across tools we really like – such as this level / cutting edge. We used it while renovating our new offices. The main feature we like is the handle. It makes measuring, marking and cutting so much easier. It gives a firm grip and hold and it keeps your hand far enough away from any sharp cutting tools to prevent it from being cut.

We like the tool so much that we are now promoting / selling it. For ordering information please contact us on 416-402-2679 or on info@wobuilt.com.

Being Green, Building Green Design and Construction Company

Collage: Being Green with Wo-Built Inc. Construction and Renovation Company in Toronto, Ontario, CanadaCollage: Being Green with Wo-Built

Our mission statement did not specifically mention "Green Construction", however we want to be known for our innovative design and construction. This includes of course looking at sustainability of buildings, their environmental footprints and their energy effectiveness. Green design can take many forms and there is no fixed template. Every situation is different, but we look in our designs for green possibilities.

It starts with design and it requires a commitment from all parties to the idea of providing a green design. There might be cost implications, or spatial compromises or long term break even points. But it all starts with an idea.

In the past we published several posts on being green. Below we added the links – please feel free to read them. They may give you ideas for your home.

Going Green in the City: Building and Renovating with "Being Green" in Mind:
Part 1 - Eco-Friendly Home Improvements
Part 2 - Going Green Is Becoming Mainstream
Part 3 - Living Rooftops - An Environmental Alternative for "Green" Building
Home Renovation Tip: Donate Reusable Items to Non-For-Profit Organizations

You can also follow us on Twitter @wobuilt and find out more about green ideas as we often tweet about green topics we find interesting. My personal favorites are green roofs.
